CHRISTINE WEAL EQUESTRIAN
Dressage Rider & Trainer
Christine runs a mentoring system as a way of putting back into the sport she enjoys. Her objective is to support younger riders coming through into open level competition, just as what was done for her in the past.

“Talent is wonderful, but
persistence is key”

Christine feels that the transition from Young Rider to open competition is a gap in the sport where there is an opportunity to improve. This is a time when the sport risks losing talented riders.

Her Mentoring and Coaching system accelerates learning from experience, and helps achieve positive, lasting change to reach personal and professional goals.

Christine has supported many young riders, usually by helping them as working pupils for her. As a working pupil she helps them with their own horses alongside involving them in the training processes of other horses at Strathfield Farm. She offers in competition support at key events for them. Most of these young riders have gone onto represent New Zealand including Rebbecca Goldsbury, Kelly Van Dyk, Hannah Lord, Jenny Stokes and Caroline Simpson in dressage and Helan Bruce and Jesse Campbell in eventing. Christine has also helped riders from overseas who have come to New Zealand to further their training.

Christine provides mentoring and coaching for individuals and teams preparing them to move to the next level. This has included Waikato and New Zealand Young Rider teams and development squads for both dressage and eventing.
